Concrete Scanning for General Contractor at Apartment Complex – Louisville, Kentucky

GPRS was contacted by a general contractor in Louisville during a renovation at an apartment complex. A bathroom was to be installed in a room which had previously served as a closet. The apartment complex owners and maintenance department wanted to take all precautions prior to installing plumbing. Therefore, GPRS was called to scan the elevated slab prior to core drilling.
The 1600 MHz antenna was used to scan the elevated slab to locate any conduits or rebar. The contractor had five areas where core drills were to take place. While scanning, it was discovered there were two layers of rebar in the slab. In the event all rebar was unable to be avoided, it was necessary to label the top and bottom bars for structural purposes. The findings were marked on the slab in the areas where the core drills were to take place.

After scanning the slab, the findings were shown to the contractor. The drilling locations had to be adjusted, but the contractor was able to find clear areas to drill. Following the drilling, the contractor sent photos to show the results. All core drills were successfully completed without drilling through any rebar or conduits.
