Concrete Scanned Prior to Drilling - Metropolis, Illinois A general contractor had a project at the I24 Bridge over the Ohio River on August 27, 2014 to install a new sign on the big concrete support under the bridge. To install the sign, the contractor needed to drill holes wide enough to fit the 8 inch anchors. It was essential while drilling into the concrete walls not to compromise any reinforcing steel located within. Prior to beginning the drilling process, the contractor contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of St. Louis/Cape Girardeau to scan the floors & locate the reinforcing steel pattern. GPRS used a GPR Mini antenna for the project that allowed for precise locating of the reinforcement. GPRS marked the reinforcing steel pattern directly on the surface using a black marker so the paths were clear prior to continuing the project. The general contractor had all the information needed to proceed with confidence, to drill through the concrete support.
