Concrete Slab Scanned for Conduit Lines at LAX Airport - Los Angeles, CaliforniaGround Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. - GPRS - of Southern California was contacted by an electrical company to scan for existing conduits within a concrete slab at the American Airlines Admirals Club Lounge at Los Angeles International Airport. The client’s scope of work consisted of removing a 6” topping slab prior to placing new tile that matched the rest of the finished floor. GPRS completed this work late at night as this was the only time the area was available for scanning, and during the scan we were able to locate over 15 conduits. The image below shows a portion of 100’x100’ area that was scanned. ![]() GPR scanning is a great tool to use for scanning for post tension cables, rebar, and conduits; it can also be used to scan for underground utilities prior to digging or excavating. GPRS has offices throughout the entire state of California and we have completed projects in cities such as: Ventura, Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks, San Luis Obispo, Bakersfield, Lancaster and the greater Los Angeles area. Ground Penetrating Radar Scan Performed at UCEN Center (UCSB) - Santa Barbara, CA Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. - GPRS - of Southern California was contacted by a general contractor to scan for reinforcing or conduit prior to core drilling. The work took place at the UCEN center at the University of Santa Barbara (UCSB) and the core drills were for cleanouts and floor drains at a new Starbucks Coffee shop that was to open in the next few weeks. Due to the active job site and rough surface of the concrete we marked all possible conduits with red paint. The proposed cores varied in sizes from 3” cleanouts to 14” floor box drains. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. - GPRS - of Southern California was contacted by an engineering firm to scan for post tension cables on the third level of a parking structure. The purpose of the work was to repair post tension cables throughout all the levels of the structure due to many of the cables snapping or no longer sustained the proper amount of tension; the client needed areas marked out prior to chipping through the 6” thick slab. We scanned (7) 10’x4’ areas on level E and marked all findings on the surface with spray paint. We marked all post tension cables with red paint, rebar was marked with blue paint and beams were marked with pink paint.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. - GPRS - of Southern California was contacted by a solar company in order to scan for reinforcing or conduits prior to anchoring. The proposed anchors were to be imbedded 4” deep and are meant to hold down an electrical transformer and other electrical equipment. We scanned an approximate 10’x5’ area on a 12” thick slab that consisted of (2) layers of 12” on center rebar at depths of approximately 2” and 8” deep. Among the other findings were (8) conduits at approximately 5”-6” deep; we marked these findings on the slab with red paint.
