A Project Manager working in Norfolk, VA called Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to locate rebar in a precast electrical vault they had built at a factory in North Carolina. The corner of the vault had a piece of concrete that had gotten chipped and broken off. The customer who had ordered the slab was convinced that there was no reinforcing in the precast vault, because the reinforcing was not visible where the piece of concrete was missing. The project manager who made the vault, called GPRS to come out and locate the reinforcing in the precast vault. They needed to know the locations and depths of the reinforcing. With the proper training, we were able to distinguish the depths and locations of the reinforcing, so the project could continue and the vault could be installed in the road and with no worries of the vault being able to withstand the weight of the road and traffic. GPRS was able to mark directly on the surface with the depths and locations of the reinforcing in real time with no wait. The Project Manager was in a time crunch and we were able to complete the request the within 24 hours of the request.
Safety is becoming a big issue in the construction industry. All of our technicians have completed the OSHA 10 training and are currently involved in an ongoing safety training course. Safety is a priority to us at Ground Penetrating Radar Systems and our track record proves it. GPR is a great tool to locate post tension cables, conduits, and rebar. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Virginia Beach, VA. scans for tension cables multiple times a week. If you need any post tension cables, rebar or conduit mapping in the Virginia Beach, VA., Norfolk, VA, Chesapeake, VA, Hampton, VA, Newport News, VA, Williamsburg, VA area please contact Bryan Housand at 757-335-1789 or at Bryan.Housand@GP-Radar.com.
A contractor reached out to Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Virginia Beach, Virginia to investigate a concrete slab full of tension cables. GPRS has been helping contractors reduce the likelihood of subsurface obstruction strikes during drilling, cutting, trenching, anchoring and other construction/demolition processes. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems not only can locate the PT Cables, but we can give you the depth of the cable as well. This information helped the contractor comfortably drill knowing that none of the cables will be hit. The contractor showed GPRS where he was going to be drilling. We marked all the cables in marker with depths beside them. The on-site scanning and marking process was completed within a few short hours and the contractor was able to begin the project in a timely fashion and with valuable information of what to expect. This was all done in a safe, time efficient, non-destructive way. The radar emits radiation less than 1% of that found to be emitted by standard cell phones. This means practically no hazardous radiation to operators or persons above or below the work zone.
GPRS is proud to provide rapid response for convenient scheduling. If you need Post-Tension mapping in the Virginia Beach VA, Chesapeake VA, Norfolk VA, Hampton VA, Newport News VA or surrounding areas please contact:

A contractor out of Sturtevant, WI, called Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to locate the rebar within the airport where they were going to be installing anchors into the slab on the second floor, and did not want to hit any reinforcing or conduits. With the proper training, we were able to determine that this particular slab was a Waffle slab. The design they had laid out they were going to hit the stems in the waffle slab. With the proper training, we were able to located the stems, reinforcing and pre-tension cables in the waffle slab. While we were out there they had 6-4” holes that needed to be drilled. GPRS scanned those holes and marked out the stems, reinforcing and for these areas. With the proper training, we were able determine that one of the 4” core holes were going to be drilled into a main support beam. GPRS was able to determine the difference between a main support beam and a stem in the waffle slab. GPRS has the training and knowledge to be able to distinguish the difference between the rebar and the conduits prior to drilling. GPRS was able to mark directly on the surface with the depth and location of the reinforcing steel in real time. All of our technicians have completed the OSHA 10 training and are currently involved in an ongoing safety training course. Safety is a priority to us at Ground Penetrating Radar Systems and our thirteen year track record proves it.
