GPR Used to Locate Voids Under Swimming Pool - Naples, FL

Recently, Ground Penetrating Radar Systems (GPRS) of Tampa, FL was requested on-site by a general contractor to perform a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scan at a condominium community in Naples, FL. The purpose of our scanning was to locate any possible voids underneath an existing indoor swimming pool as well as the area along the exterior of the pool house. The sidewalk along the exterior of the pool house had sunk nearly 3” from the level it was poured at. The pool has been losing nearly 5,000 gallons of water per day. The contractor working at this particular location has plans inject grout in the sunken locations in order to fill any areas containing voids. The contractor needed to know where any possible voids were located as well as surrounding utilities so they would not be hit or obstructed by the grout being pumped into the areas. All anomalies and possible voids present were clearly marked on the surface so the contractor knew what anomalies were in the areas they needed to inject grout. We scanned multiple locations while on-site and explained where all anomalies found were located. The general contractor was able to safely locate where the possible voids were located as well as where the surrounding utilities were and inject grout where needed without hitting any utilities.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems is the best way to ensure the locations of possible voids and underground utilities in order to avoid hitting these objects when excavating outdoors. After all anomalies were marked on the surface, they were explained in detail to the on-site contractor to ensure that no problems would occur when the grouting would be conducted. The photo below depicts Justin Rasanow, our Tampa Area Manager, scanning a portion of the indoor pool using our 400MHz antenna. We also used our 1600MHz antenna (not pictured) to fine-tune where any shallow anomalies were found. Following our scanning, the contractor was pleased that they were able fill possible void areas with grout without hitting any utilities surrounding the areas.
