Plastic Conduit and Rebar Locating Prior to Bathroom Remodel - Seattle, WAGPRS, LLC. was contacted by a local bathroom remodeling specialist who was planning to move the location of a concrete core in order to install a new shower basin. GPRS mobilized the next afternoon and completed the entire concrete scan in under an hour. All reinforcing steel and water piping was marked clearly on the surface, and the results were communicated to the owner of the property. Work had been performed in another unit in the same building earlier that year by a different contractor, where they opted not to scan for in slab conduits or reinforcing steel before drilling into the slab. The negligent contractor cored directly through two plastic water pipes in the slab, and flooded the units below as a result. The damages were in the neighborhood of $10,000 - $15,000 dollars, and the contractor who made the mistake was taken off the project completely. This entire situation could have been avoided had the contractor made the call to have the slab checked before he proceeded. ![]() The photo above shows the reinforcing steel (in blue) and numerous conduits (in red) that were located within very close proximity to the proposed core location.
