Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. of Arizona was contacted by a major cell tower contractor to locate all underground utilities for installation of a new cell tower. While GPRS has conducted utility locating services for many new cellular tower installation projects, this project posed unique challenges for the contractor. The proposed cellular tower site was to be situated on the property of a local power plant. Consequently, there was a high concentration of known underground utilities including high voltage power conduit, fiber optic lines, gas lines, water lines, and possible sewer lines.

The contractor was given the difficult and critical task of ensuring that the proposed cellular tower site was to be clear of all utilities before any excavating was to take place. This was essential, in order to avoid extremely expensive damages, repairs, and most importantly, the need to mitigate all exposure to safety risks.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems arrived on site to survey the proposed area and identify the dozens of utility lines underground. GPRS is extremely familiar with extensive and congested underground utilities and was able to successfully provide markings on site in real time, for the locations of the underground utilities. GPRS used ground penetrating radar and signal detection, both on this site, as they allowed for our technician to visually see underground utilities as well as to detect them through signal detection technology.
