Underground Utility Locate at the Marathon Petroleum Terminal A project engineer needed to locate underground utilities in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The area that needed to be surveyed, using ground penetrating radar, was the Marathon Petroleum Spangler and Eisenhower Terminal facilities in Port Everglades, Florida. The project engineer contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC., who are specialists in underground utility locating. This is an ideal application for ground penetrating radar, which is one that GPRS, LLC. was capable of providing. The GPRS, LLC. South Florida team accepted the project and mobilized to the site to perform the investigation. On site, GPRS provided their OSHA 10 credentials and underwent thorough on site safety training to ensure that all safety protocol were followed accurately. Prior to the installation of new concrete foundations and excavation of pipeline casting, GPRS performed the subsurface inspection. During the investigation, GPRS was able to use ground penetrating radar to locate underground utility lines and piping, in the vicinity of where the excavating was scheduled to occur. The GPR investigation was a success in locating the underground utilities to mitigate the potential risk of coming in contact with prior to breaking ground.
