Private Utility Locating Project - Greater Chicago, IL AreaA GPR scan was to be performed to locate utilities that may be in the way of a planned excavation to install a new water main line. Working with the general contractor on the project, Ground Penetrating Radar Systems (GPRS) was there to conduct the GPR scan to locate unground utilities or other significant anomalies that may be struck in the excavation process. The reason GPR scans are used on areas like this is to locate any unknowns/utilities/pipes so these utilities can be avoided and remain undamaged, ensuring projects stay on schedule, don’t have repair costs and enable a safe work environment. GPRS of Chicago was able to conduct the scan and locate possible utilities that could have posed problems later. Any unground utilities, pipes or other obstructions that were found were marked on the site with red paint. GPRS of Chicago was also able to GPS this site using handheld GEO Explorer units and overlay the findings onto a Google earth file. The client now has a file that they can access with the locations of utilities even if the paint and flags erode over time. Utility locating is a common application for GPRS technicians. If you have any questions regarding the use of Ground Penetrating Radar for concrete scanning or underground imaging on your job site in Illinois, Wisconsin or Northwest Indiana, please contact John Lause at 312-485-7725 or john.lause@gprsinc.com. |
