Underground Utility Locate - Seattle, Washington

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. was contacted by a large contractor in Seattle to scan a property for underground utilities. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. used a 400 MHz GPR antenna as well as Radio Detection to perform the underground utility locate, and as the scan was conducted, the results were marked directly onto the project surface with color coordinated spray paint (as shown in the picture below). At this property, there were multiple gas lines, and several abandoned underground utilities, and the locations of these lines were all marked out.

In the image above, you can see the gas lines marked with yellow spray paint, the water line is marked out with blue paint, the green paint indicates a sewer line, and the white paint indicates unknown utilities. Once the scan was finished, the contractor was then able to use this information to confidently move forward with their trenching so that they could install several new fiber optic lines. For this project, in addition to using spray paint to mark the results onto the ground, we also provided the customer with a CAD output of all of the located utilities.

We use the latest in ground penetrating technology to provide our customers with critical information on utilities within existing structures or underground. Fast and reliable, GPRS provides both two- and three-dimensional images of the scanned areas without emitting any radiation. Because GPR does not release harmful radiation, GPR technology is especially useful for projects at locations such as hospitals and refineries. Utilizing GPR reduces risk and cost, promotes a safe work environment, and provides non-destructive testing by locating concrete, rebar, post tension cables, and other items underground or within a concrete slab. Our client base includes hospitals, universities, surveyors, engineers, homeowners, contractors, environmentalists, and excavators. We are often asked to locate underground utilities, UST’s, rebar, post tension cables, and conduits.
