Utility Locating Scan Prior to Soil Boring - Phoenix, AZGround Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. - GPRS - of Arizona was contacted by a major environmental contractor that needed to have a job-site scanned for utility lines, and an oil/water underground storage tank (UST). For this project, it was critical to the customer that the boundaries of the UST, and the lines leading to the tank were located as the contactor was planning to conduct several soil borings prior to installing several monitoring wells and vapor sample locations over the UST. During the scan, GPRS Project Manager, Nate Holscher located the underground storage tank as well as all of the pipes that were connecting to it. Once the tank was located, Nate then scanned the entire job site for utility lines. For this scan, one of the utility lines was an elusive underground gas line that did not have a tracer wire attached to it. GPRS was able to locate this natural gas line without any issue, and addtionally, several water lines were located as well. ![]() ![]() GPRS is the leader in the concrete and utility scanning industry, and one of the reasons for this is that we are able to provide our customers with multi-technology site scans. For this project, we used both signal induction detection, and traditional ground penetrating radar to scan the area. By conducting multi-technology site scans, GPRS is able to provide our customers with the most comprehensive utility scanning reports possible. Ground Penetrating Radar, or GPR is a great tool to locating underground utilities such as water, gas, electrical, communication, sewer, and other items prior to digging or excavating. Ground penetrating Radar can also be used to scan areas (such as concrete slabs) for post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes.
