Wellheads Located with Ground Radar – Drumright, OKGPRS Successfully Locates Capped & Buried Wellheads
- Drumright, OK

Prior to trenching to install utilities a general-contractor contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. to scan for possible buried utilities and to locate a known wellhead within the work-site. Mike Kuebbeler-GPRS Oklahoma mobilized to the site in Drumright, Oklahoma to perform a method of metal detection using a magnetometer within the suggested areas. Multiple ferrous object were found using this device but was able to pinpoint the well head with the stronger signal within the 100’x100’ area. This enabled the contractors to daylight the wellhead with a back-hole the first dig instead of guessing and digging the wrong areas where they previously though the wellhead existed.

The Magnetometer is a great tool for locating buried, manholes, water or shutoff valves, and cut and capped wellheads which are fairly common in Oklahoma and Texas. Wellheads may need to be found for excavation or the need may arise to use existing wellheads to further exploit resources using modern technology. The magnetometer results are backed up with our GPR antenna which cleared the rest of the trench path, the radar imaging was performed quickly and accurately. Since the results were marked directly onto the surface, the customer was able to avoid any shallow utilities, damage to equipment and injuries on-site. Unlike x-ray/gamma ray, Ground Penetrating Radar is time efficient, non-hazardous and able to show real time results. The energy emitted is equivalent to 1% of a cell phone, therefore, the production of the construction site can continue without any radiation hazards.

GPRS also provides CAD files with GPS line locations and depths as well as google earth overlays. For larger metallic tanks GPRS uses Electro-Magnetic-Detection, using the best technology available for superior in field results.

Our Mission is to provide solutions to the critical problems our customers face regarding the location of hidden elements in concrete and underground.
