GPRS,
Inc was contacted by Carter Electric Company about locating
electrical conduits beneath the concrete slab of a Guess
Factory Store. Carter planned to remove the concrete
in three small areas which required saw cutting. They
contacted Ground Penetrating
Radar Systems to make sure that they did
not cut through any electrical conduit that could be
running through the slab. Chris Moore with GPRS mobilized to the site and scanned the three small areas
using both ground penetrating radar and radio detection.
The concrete was found to be roughly 6 inches thick
and it contained a 6”x6” wire mesh. There
were no conduits found in or just below the concrete and Carter Electric
was given the “all-clear” to continue with
the saw cutting and concrete removal.
Electrical
conduit locating prior to saw cutting and core drilling
is a common application for GPR.
Our 1500MHz antenna will attain accurate data to a depth
of 20-24” thus revealing any conduit in or just
below the concrete. In addition, GPRS has recently added Radio Detection to its conduit locating
services. Radio Detection is ideal for locating live
power. With both of these tools GPRS can now say they provide the highest possible assurance
that no conduit will be struck during your next concrete
or utility project.
