CONRAC, Hartsfield Jackson
Atlanta To reduce congestion around the Atlanta International Airport, a new system known as CONRAC is being developed for access to the rental car facilities. As part of the construction process, the builders desired to perform random tests on some of the concrete for the overpass roadway. Jeff Dehart of Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was able to perform the required testing on short notice. He used Ground Penetrating Radar to locate the reinforcing steel in the concrete. He also used GPR to locate any possible voids in or under the concrete. Ground Penetrating Radar uses electromagnetic pulses to penetrate concrete and dirt, locating reinforcing steel, voids, and objects like utilities and USTs.
