Ground Penetrating Radar System
|
Ground Penetrating Radar was recently contacted by a structural engineer in the Detroit, MI area about a local elementary school experiencing settling with its exterior walls and some floor areas. The school experienced a “scare” when its gym floor suddenly cracked and sank along the exterior wall. It had appeared that the wall was separating itself from the foundation and no one knew why. The school decided to take action to identify if other areas of the school were failing structurally. Ground Penetrating Radar System was immediately brought in to perform testing on the concrete slab to identify the presence of voids beneath three of its classrooms. The investigation by Ground Penetrating Radar proved to be a worthwhile effort as several areas within the classrooms revealed voids immediately below the concrete slab. Ground Penetrating Radar System was able to plot the location of the voids to make the engineering group aware of the area in need of repair. Void Detection is one of many common concrete scanning (Ground Penetrating Radar) applications that Ground Penetrating Radar System performs on a regular basis.
