Ground Penetrating Radar Systems - Florida
office was called to scan a concrete roof top area for
the construction of an inset “parapet” type
of wall. This wall was indeed inset on the roof top, and
encompassed all the air condition units for the condominium
units below. According to our client, this was done by
the designer to be aesthetically pleasing. Air condition
units would not be visible from other buildings nearby
or from below in front of the building.
It
turned out to be the most unusual and challenging job
performed by the Florida office so far. There were roof trusses and
two-by-four supports at almost every conceivable angle
you could possibly imagine. The client had to go in and
actually cut and remove the lower part of these trusses so that scanning could be performed. It turned out to
be quite a slow process. And as an added bonus, there
were air condition lines running in every direction on the concrete deck.
Our client was very impressed by the radar’s
capability to identify the precise location of the rebar and post-tension cables,
as this was the first time that they have seen this type
of technology. This project has to be completed in increments,
to allow for the new wall to be built and the old roof
to be torn off and readily replaced. This was only the
first two areas, there are three more buildings to do
on this site, and we (GPRS)
will return in a month to complete another area.
