In June 2008 the Virginia/DC office of Ground Penetrating Radar was contacted by the Magnolia Companies in regards to a project they were doing at St. Johns College High School in Washington, D.C. They had to core drill through a waffle slab without striking any of the reinforcement in the slab while core drilling their 3” to 6” holes. GPRS, LLC. arrived at the site the next day and was able to scan out five areas where the core drilling was to take place. The reinforcement was marked directly onto the floors surface to assist with the placement of the holes. Several holes had to be moved by Magnolias after the reinforcement had been laid out. GPRS was also able to determine the thickness of the waffle slab and was able to show Magnolias the areas where the concrete was thickest so that they could core drill in the thinner areas. Magnolia was then able to complete their work without any delays and confidence that they would not hit any reinforcement in the slab.

If your company is doing a project in the Virginia/DC area and need to know rebar, conduit or post-tension locations in the concrete prior to coring or saw cutting contact Jamey Harmon at (703)728-7333.
